The Guild had a grandfather approach to membership. Potential members had to operate a registered business with adequate insurance. Qualifications in arboriculture were not mandatory and still aren’t. This we believe has been one of the keys to out success. We would expect a member to demonstrate commitment to professional development and to participate in Guild activities. Some members have no formal arboriculture qualifications when first becoming members. Guidance from the guild has enabled them to access the relevant training and skills required to become Tree Surgeons / Arborists. BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP Some of the benefits members currently enjoy include:
Another great strength we have is a bond of friendship and a common purpose. The camaraderie can be felt at our meetings and functions. When a member faces difficulties they know they can count on us for support. Major events in our calendar include a Competition Fun Day around February, which proves to be a popular social gathering, open to anyone interested. At this event corporate members have an opportunity to promote themselves to other members and the wider industry. In keeping with our aim to foster public awareness the Guild puts on a display at the Perth Flower and Garden Show, which is a premier horticultural event. At the end of the year we hold a Presentation Evening where we issue industry awards, honour those people who have excelled during the year and celebrate our achievements. WA is relatively isolated, but this has been an advantage. We have been able to develop quickly without interference, gaining the recognition and respect of governing bodies and thereby successful in expediting practical solutions to industry problems. It’s visibly evident that the standard of care and maintenance of our urban forests in WA has improved. Some if not most of the credit for this change must be attributed to the ongoing work of the members their families and friends. See Also: Membership Rules and Regulations | |
