GUILD INCEPTION

Just over 15 years ago a group of tree contractors in Perth got together with the intention of forming an organisation.

Issues that were of concern at the time included, certification and training for tree work around powerlines, insurance, education, arboricultural standards, bulk buying power, information exchange etc.

On the 10th November 1988 an interim committee was formed. The inaugural meeting of the Tree Contractors Guild of WA was held on the 1st of December 1988. The term “Contractors” was deleted later in keeping the Guilds Aims and to promote a broader outlook.

AIMS OF THE GUILD

Utilising information from other associations such as AAA (with their kind permission) a constitution was produced. Our aims are as follows:

  1. To promote and advance the science and art of Arboriculture including the planting, cultivation, management and utilisation of amenity trees, woodlands and urban forests.

  2. To foster public interest in the care and appreciation for trees and shrubs.

  3. To improve the standard of practice towards professional Arboriculture.

  4. To assist in the education and training in Arboriculture.

  5. To recommend and uphold a professional Code of Ethics to maintain a high level of practice by those practicing Arboriculture.

  6. To support research in Arboriculture.

  7. To represent the interest of all concerned with Arboriculture.
